Joanne Glaser, CHRP – Director, Human Resources

Joanne’s career in Human Resources spans 25 years. Prior to joining Cornerstones, Joanne was the Executive Director of Human Resources at a large hydro electric utility. Joanne’s strength is developing superior solutions to complex problems. In her role as Executive Director, she brought together staff from 5 municipal utilities. Not only did she play a lead role in the design and staffing of the new organization but also was instrumental in the creation of the management compensation structure, harmonization of wages and creation of the new classification structures for both management and union jobs.

Joanne spent 10 years as a line manager which included a number of functional human resources areas including staffing, training and development, human resource information systems, compensation, classification, pay and employment equity. Highlights include chairing a provincial sub-committee that lobbied the provincial government for pay equity reform. Their efforts led to an audience with the Minister of Labour.

Joanne has worked with clients in various sectors including federal, health care, municipal, education, utility, technology, engineering, manufacturing and not for profit.

Not only can Joanne act as an advisor to management but she can roll up her sleeves and draft job advertisements, job descriptions, policy and crunch numbers. Joanne’s facilitation skills can assist your team to make decisions to move your organization forward.

Joanne focuses on developing long term relationships which enables her to quickly read client’s needs and develop action plans to meet those needs.

A believer in giving back to the community, Joanne is currently an active member of the Ontario Human Resources Professional Association, past Chairperson of the Human Resources Committee and past Board Member at the Big Sisters Association of Ottawa-Carleton. Joanne currently sits on the Board of Directors for a local child care organization.

Joanne is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a degree specializing in Commerce.  She achieved her designation as a Certified Human Resources Professional in 1990 and is a certified trainer in a number of programmes including Frontline Leadership and Coaching.  In 2013, Joanne achieved her certification as a Workplace Investigator.

Joanne has also been a mentor for the Sprott School of Business, Executive Certificate in Strategic Human Resources Leadership.   Joanne is a sought-after speaker at conferences and other events.

Scott Smith – Director, Risk Management

Scott provides risk services to a variety of clients in Ontario including private and public sector employers. As principle trainer for Cornerstones Risk Management Division, Scott has enabled hundreds of joint health and safety committee members to become certified with the WSIB. His risk management skills include communication at all levels of an organization, program development, policy and procedure writing, education and training, workers’ compensation management, program evaluation, and issue resolution.

Throughout his career, Scott has made a conscious effort to gain experience in all aspects of risk management in a variety of sectors including, oil & gas, service, property casualty insurance, telecommunications, health care, and municipal government. This has led him to progressively responsible positions with sector leaders including Shell Canada Resources, Chubb Insurance, Bell Northern Research, Queensway Carleton Hospital, City of Ottawa, and Ontario Service Safety Alliance. This experience has seen many successes including significant reductions in workers’ compensation costs, emergency preparedness, as well as development and implementation of programs that resulted in significant reductions in workplace injuries.

Scott is a senior health and safety professional who began his career after completing the Safety Engineering Technologist Program at Humber College in 1985 with the Ministry of Labour Award for Excellence. Beyond his experience in risk management, Scott has gained knowledge and experience in human resources management that he utilizes when providing service to Cornerstones’ clients.

Scott’s human resource management skills have been acquired through a combination of education and work experience over the last 20 years. This includes completion of courses in human resource management, negotiations, job evaluation, and performance management. He provides Cornerstones’ clients with generalist human resource services including recruiting, performance management, and terminations. He uses his skills to write job descriptions, complete salary surveys, and prepare organization change programs.

Scott’s motto of, Communication, Commitment, and Consistency will become evident to Cornerstones’ clients as they develop a strong working relationship with him.

Kellie Howe – Senior Human Resources Consultant

Kellie has over 20 years of experience in the Human Resources field and has provided HR expertise and best practices to companies of various sizes and stages of development.  Kellie’s strengths are to build, improve and enhance an organizations’ HR practices, policies and programs.  

Kellie has been retained to audit, evaluate, design, develop, implement and/or refine and align strategic HR programs and initiatives with the overall business and organizational objectives while managing the change and impact on the business.  She has proven success and results in Employee Engagement, Compensation, Performance Management, Organizational Development, Mergers and Acquisitions, Employee Retention, Job Classification, Change Management, Leadership Coaching, Policy and Program Development and Benefits.

Kellie is a graduate of Carleton University with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and Sociology. She is also a graduate from Seneca College where she completed her post graduate Human Resource Management Certificate (C.H.R.M.).  Kellie also attended the University of Chicago to receive her Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) designation.  

Kellie is a member of the HRPAO-Human Resources Professional Association of Ontario, WBN-Women’s Business Network, CEPA-Certified Exit Planning Advisors, ASP-Accredited Staging Professionals and IAHSP-International Association of Home Staging Professionals.  She also holds Security clearance at the SECRET Level.
